A Group of Assassins led by a handful of officers, struck down Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family including his 10-year-old son, on August 15, 1975. And on 3 November 1971, four National Leaders and Heroes of Bangladesh war in 1971, Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Mansur Ali and A H M Kamaruzzaman Who were in Custody had been gunned down within central Jail precincts.

The killing of Bangabandhu and his associates, a deep-rooted conspiracy, had all the elements aimed at reversing the expected course of the new country. The darkness of Military rule deepened further in the form of the Indemnity Ordinance to protect the killers of Bangabandhu and obstruct Justice. The state turned authoritarian and for fifteen years (1975-90) military regimes ruled the country tampered the constitution, protect the war crime Razakars as well those killers of August and November 1975 by allowing them diplomatic posting and politics. CMLA-turned politicians foisted their political parties in the name of multi-party democracy under Martial Law. The 15-Year misrule of military regimes and the BNP-Jamaat alliance government (2001-2006), There was a phenomenal rise of terrorism and members of the minority community became victim of political vengeance and discrimination. Under VPA. No governments between August 1975 and 1996 took initiatives to ensure justice, Rule of Law, human rights and people's participation in elections.

In the 9th parliamentary election result, hopes are rekindled of a charter of change of a new economic order and full exercise of voting rights of people which would serve the needs of the rural people and the rights of religious and ethnic minorities.
